9 Days Uganda Wildlife & Primate Safari

This safari will begin and end in Rwanda. It will take you to the Eastern part of Rwanda up to Akagera National Park one of the most protected areas for wild animals. The Park is a home to a number of wildlife such as giraffe, zebra, elephant, olive baboon, buffaloes, antelopes, spotted hyenas among other. From here the safari will continue taking you to the Southern part of Rwanda to Nyungwe National Park which is one of the most mountainous rain forests in Africa. It’s well-known for its large number of primates such as chimpanzee, Angola Colobus, Olive Baboon, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, golden monkey, Vervet monkeys, Silver Monkey, and Red-tailed Monkey among other plus also various species of birds and plants. The journey will also take you to Gisenyi town which is located on the shores of Lake Kivu for beach activities such as boat trip, spot fishing, swimming, beach volley ball among others. Then finally you will continue to Volcanoes National park in the Western side of Rwanda for mountain gorillas tracking the most fascinating activity at the park:

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the Akagera National park.
On arrival at the airport, you will be met and greeted by our company representative who will transfer you to Akagera National Park one of the most protected areas in Rwanda for wildlife viewing. En rout stopover for genocide memorial visit and museum centre, visit also the cultural centers, market places and other interesting places. You will have lunch en rout before proceeding to the park. Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise.
Early in the morning after a cup of tea or coffee, you will go for a morning game drive which may give you a chance to view a variety of animal species that came out from their hideout for feeding. Animals such as giraffe, elephants, Zebra, impala buffaloes, antelopes, topi, bush baby, lion, hyena and leopards may be spotted and some species of bird and plants among others. A slow drive to the lodge is made for a full breakfast and lunch. After lunch and relaxation, you will go for a 2 hour’s an evening boat drive on the Lake Ihema which may give you a chance to watch hippos, large crocodiles and bird lovers also have a chance of watching various bird species that feed on and around the lake these include the fish eagle, malachite kingfisher papyrus gonolek, the rare Shoe billed stock and herons among others. Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park;
After a morning breakfast you will be transferred to the Southern part of Rwanda up to Nyungwe National Park home of over 13 species of primates. Make a stopover at Gikongoro for a tour of the genocide memorial of Murambi where many people where buried and also it has good information about how this war started. Continue to Butare town, it’s a home for National museum with very many Universities so you can do hand craft and souvenir shopping. You will continue with your journey and visit the Royal Palace in Nyanza. Have lunch en rout and then continue with your journey to Nyungwe National Park enjoy a beautiful view through out. Day 4: Chimp trekking in Nyungwe Forest
Have breakfast, and then the guide will lead you to the forest to search for the chimpanzee and other primates that live in the forest. The park is a home of over 13 species of primates such as the chimpanzee the most closest relative of man, the Angolan black and white colobus monkey, Olive Baboon, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, golden monkey, Vervet monkeys, Silver Monkey, Red-tailed Monkey among other may also be seen during the trekking plus also various species of bird such as orange and white birds, great blue Turaco, forest Hornbills, to mention but a few.You are advised to carry with you packed lunch and bottled water because the trekking time is an expected as it can take about 1-6 hours depending on their movements. Come back at the lodge for leisure and late lunch.
If you have energy this evening go for a canopy walk or Nature walk, here visitors have a grater chance to view butterflies, different species of birds, and different species of primates that reside in the upper levels of the forest. Come back for dinner and overnight at the lodge

Day5: Transfer to Gisenyi town:
Have a gorgeous breakfast and after proceed to Gisenyi town which is located on the shores of Lake Kivu. Upon your arrival check in and have lunch at the Hotel/Lodge. After if you’re interested you can go for a boat trip on the Lake to the closest Islands to discover fresh-looking places and sceneries, different species of birds can be seen such as water birds, sun birds among others. You can also relax at the side of the beach and if interested you can go swimming and also enjoy the sun bathing, spot fishing come back at the lodge for dinner and an Overnight stay

Day 6: Lake Kivu to Volcanoes National Park.

Day 7: Gorilla tracking at Volcanoes National Park:
After taking your breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters at 7.00am for a short briefing on the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas and also meet your ranger guide. After, get accompanied with a ranger guide who will lead you to the forest to begin the activity of looking for these intelligent and giant apes for the group booked for. You are advised to carry with you packed lunch and bottled water. In terms of clothing you are reminded to wear long sleeved shirt and blouses,Light rain gear, strong boots, non flash camera, long khaki or jean trousers as it involve passing through muddy areas and thick forest. The time spend searching for these giants is an predictable as it depends on their movements, but ounce you come across these giants you will forget all the troubles you have passed through and begin enjoying watching them while doing their daily activities like feeding, playing. Day 8: Golden Monkey Tracking
After enjoying your breakfast, you will participate in another adventure activity that’s golden monkey tracking. Report to the park headquarters for a short briefing about golden monkey tracking, then after get accompanied by a ranger guide who will lead you to the jungle forest to begin searching them.You either follow Kabatwa at the base of Sabyinyo or Musanga at the base of Karisimbi. Golden monkeys are the most endangered primate species in the volcanoes and their very interesting to watch. And tracking these elusive monkeys may take between 1-7 hours so a reasonable degree of fitness is required plus packed lunch and water. After the activity retire to the lodge for relaxation. Day 9: Departure:
Early breakfast and then head to Kigali city. Stopover will be made on the way to admire nature and also take some photographs in case you’re interested. Enjoy a brief Kigali city tour in case you missed the first one, visit the genocide memorial centre , museum centre, market places and other interesting places enjoy Lunch en rout and then continue to the airport to meet your departure flight back home..
