Kidepo National Park is located in Kaboongo District in the Northeastern corner of Uganda. It has been a National Park since 1954. It covers 1440sq km and its one of the remote parks in Uganda. Because of being far but it’s distinguished for a number of animals that are found no where else in Uganda, over 80 species of mammal. It’s also recorded to have over 475 bird species. Kidepo National Park can be accessible either by road or by air from Kampala –Lira then Kaabongo up to Kidepo which can take between 11-12hours on the way.
It has a variety of mammals which include zebra, elephant, bufaloes, bush buck, lion, elephant, and leopard. It’s the only Park where you can view both Rothschild Giraffe and Burchell’s zebra together with Ostrich some thing that add up to its beauty. Bird species include Varreaux Eagle, Egyptian Vulture, ostrich, African swallow, long tailed and standard-winged Night jars and bat eared foxes.
Tour activities with in the Park.
Bird watching. Kidepo National Park features over 465 species of bird which is recorded in the Park. Examples include Ostrich, kori bustard and other likely to be seen include Hornbills, a hammer kop, Abyssinian.
Game drive. Most games are viewed with in the Narus Valley, games such as elephant, buffaloes, giraffe, and lion and many more. With in the park, there are higher chances of viewing tree climbing lions that always sit on sauces trees along Narus valley or on rocks just as you enter the Apoka Park Headquarters.
Guided nature walk .The park gives visitors an opportunity to do nature walk where they see the karamajong home stead , kraal, bows and arrows and more so there traditional costume.
rock climbing and scenery viewing .hiking is carried out in Lamogi Mountains as well as climbing to kidepo River Valley.

The best time to visit the Park is during dry season. It will offer the best chance of lion sighting and easiest access by road to Kidepo.The rainy season are April to may and October to November although climate change accordingly.
There are some accommodations with in the Park of which some are self contained and others are non self contained, it also offers comp sits for those who may wish to comp. These include;
Apoke Lodge. Is a luxury lodge found in kidepo National Park and it is run by the Uganda wild Life Authority. It offers best accommodation facilities.
Apoke rest Comp. with Apoke rest comp, it’s recommended that you bring your own food although it can be cooked for you if necessary. The wilds Life Authority also provide Cottages near by at a self catering hostel.
Moroto Hotel .It’s found in moroto town and it provides the best accommodation. Others include Gulona lodge and Golii which also provide basic accommodation.
